about

I wrote this song a very long time ago. I think a home demo of it was the last thing I uploaded to my myspace page around 2007? The style and arrangement were born out of playing with this wonderful band. Upon a closer examination of the lyrics, I discovered the subject matter eerily relevant to our times.

lyrics

I met all of my best friends at the border
Talking trash and selling it for cash.
They taught me how to disobey an order
And learn to dance the music of machines.
I started fires with blowjob torches
and clicked off all my virtual hairs.
Waited for that special perfect moment
To accurately assess who cares.
And it's so easy to inside out your pocket
Or fill my shows with water from the rain.
Digitize that half-eaten burrito
Or pause that online poker game.

So, why are you trying so...
Why are you trying so...
Why are you trying so hard to be boring?

Why are you trying so...
Why are you trying so...
Why are you trying so hard?

Our heads are spun like TV sets
But there are no more dials for our eyes.
So, we pull our plugs out of our walls
And screen the world right off our balls.
Every day we change the font
On the same three stupid things we want.
Accumulating bits of brain
From the different memories that we blame.
So, you can pull my finger all day long.
Or shoe my fee with water from the rain.
But a rootbeer float with rooftop friends
Is where a life that's good begins

So, why are you trying so...
Why are you trying so...
Why are you trying so hard to be boring?

Why are you trying so...
Why are you trying so...
Why are you trying so hard?
